Guidelines of Service
Baylor University and the Office of Access and Learning Accommodation (OALA) provide a supportive environment to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to educational programs.
Transportation assistance is available through OALA to students with permanent mobility impairments or conditions that would be considered a disability under the ADA. The accommodations provided are based upon the student’s individual needs. Accommodations can include classroom accommodations, parking considerations, and use of the Baylor Disability Shuttle. The Disability Shuttle is not required by law but offered as an additional service to Baylor's central campus. The shuttle will operate tentatively in the Spring- Monday through Friday 7:40 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and supports as many as 10,000 scheduled transports each year.
ANNOUNCEMENT: During first two weeks of the semester, new shuttle applications may have delayed processing, due to driver training and schedule coordination.
Documentation Requirements
To qualify for services, students must provide medical documentation from their healthcare provider to OALA that includes: (1) a diagnosis, (2) the severity of the condition, (3) the functional limitations caused by the disability, (4) the recommended accommodations, and (5) the anticipated length of time services would be required. (6) Physician Signature. Please refer to our documentation guidelines.
Any student requesting accommodations must register with the Office of Access and Learning Accommodation by completing an online application. Please call 254-710-4500 with any questions. Physicians may fax documentation to our office at 254-710-3608.
Intake Process & Time Frames
Once the shuttle application has been submitted, with complete medical documentation, an intake meeting will be scheduled. During this meeting, shuttle policies/procedures will be reviewed & the student's shuttle schedule established. Intake meetings are required before services can begin. Meetings can be arranged virtually if needed.
In general, students who have turned in complete medical documentation & completed the online shuttle application are contacted within 48 business hours. However, during periods of high demand, it may take two or three business days - or even longer during the first week of each semester. Any student anticipating needing transport beginning on the first class day of a new semester, should submit his/her request as soon as possible. VERY few intake meetings are available during the first week of class while drivers are still in training.
The Baylor Disability Shuttle does not run during the weekends, official study days, or final exams.
