Faculty Accommodate Login and Resources
Faculty can use Accommodate to view accommodation notifications for students enrolled in their courses and access information needed to implement approved accommodations.
The Office of Access and Learning Accommodation (OALA) partners with faculty to provide students with disabilities equal access to Baylor's academic programs while preserving essential academic requirements.
At Baylor, OALA is institutionally responsible for determining eligibility for disability-related accommodations and coordinating the individualized accommodation process. Faculty provide essential academic expertise regarding course structure, learning objectives, instructional methods, assessment practices, and requirements that may be essential to a course or program.
Implementing Accommodations
An OALA accommodation notification letter identifies the accommodations for which a student has been approved and is eligible for. Students decide whether and when to use their approved accommodations for each of their courses.
Some accommodations can be implemented routinely and others may require communication or course-specific consultation because their implementation depends on the structure and essential requirements of the course.
Faculty should not require students to provide their diagnosis or medical documentation in order to use an accommodation approved by OALA. Questions regarding documentation, disability eligibility, or the reasonableness of an accommodation should be directed to OALA.
Accommodations are not retroactive and apply prospectively once activated through OALA's notification process.
When Questions Arise
Faculty are encouraged to contact OALA whenever questions arise regarding how an accommodation should operate within a particular course.
If a faculty member believes an approved accommodation may modify an essential academic requirement or otherwise fundamentally alter the nature of a course or program, OALA will coordinate an individualized review with appropriate faculty and academic administrators. Faculty should contact OALA rather than independently denying, modifying, substituting, or discontinuing an approved accommodation.
If a disagreement cannot be resolved through consultation, the matter may be elevated through OALA leadership and appropriate academic administration and, when necessary, to the Office of the Provost and Office of General Counsel for additional institutional review.
