The Mission of the Office of Access and Learning Accommodation (OALA)
OALA’s Mission
Baylor has a strong institutional commitment to value the dignity and worth of every member of our diverse campus community, specifically through ensuring welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environments. To uphold this commitment, the Office of Access and Learning Accommodation’s (OALA) mission is to cultivate a supportive and equitable environment at Baylor University that ensures that all aspects of campus life are accessible to all students with disabilities to promote a successful and positive experience in their academic and community life.
To accomplish this, OALA is responsible for:
- Providing reasonable and appropriate academic, housing, and campus accommodations for students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Offering training, programming, and workshops to the Baylor community, including faculty, staff, and students to support the creation and success of an inclusive and accessible campus environment.
- Serving as a supportive resource for students with disabilities who need information, guidance, assistance, or referrals to enhance their academic and student experience during their time at Baylor.
- A commitment to engaging in best practices and assisting Baylor University in interpreting and staying current on federal and state legislation regarding support, management, and rendering of accommodations for students with disabilities.
