Housing Accommodations

Housing Accommodations

Reminder: Fall 2025 Housing Accommodation Requests are due to OALA by April 15, 2025.

Baylor University is committed to the full participation of students with disabilities in all aspects of college life, including residential life. In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Fair Housing Act, OALA, in collaboration with Campus Living and Learning, has established procedures to ensure that students with documented disabilities have equal access to housing accommodations that reasonably meet their needs.

Students who are not registered with OALA are encouraged to submit an application for accommodations and specify the need for housing accommodations. If a student is already registered with OALA and needs housing accommodations, they must reach out to their accommodation specialist via email and submit the following: a) documentation outlining your need for housing accommodations. Please refer to our documentation guidelines for what information should be included and b) written personal statement that describes the following: your condition and its impact on your housing experience, specifically outline your housing accommodation requests, and an explanation of how these accommodations will ameliorate symptoms or help overcome limitations related to your condition. If a student does not know who their accommodation specialist is, they can reach out to OALA@baylor.edu for further information.

Housing requests will be accommodated based on level of need and availability and, thus, students should make their request as soon as they identify a need and ahead of any OALA and Campus Living and Learning deadlines. Fall 2025 Housing Accommodation Requests are due to OALA by April 15, 2025.

Requests for housing accommodations will be reviewed by OALA’s housing committee that meets weekly to review applications. Decisions regarding requests or the need for further information will be sent to students via email. Additionally, if denied, the student will be provided with reasoning for the denial. Campus Living and Learning staff will work to facilitate access to appropriate housing accommodations as promptly as possible and as availability allows.

Important Considerations

All students who request a housing accommodation must or should have completed their housing application with Campus Living and Learning. All housing accommodations must be renewed each year and do not automatically carry over. Students must request housing accommodations each academic year.

OALA does not approve housing accommodation requests for students to be assigned to a particular residence hall, but rather for a particular housing set-up (i.e. ADA-accessible room, single room, private bathroom, first floor, etc.). Campus Living & Learning will consider but cannot guarantee a student's community preferences (submitted through their housing application) when fulfilling an approved accommodation. Campus Living & Learning will seek to prioritize providing as many housing accommodations as space permits and will do so over preferences.

OALA does not provide housing accommodations based on learning disabilities where a request cites distraction, quiet space, studying, etc. as this need can be met by referring the student to various study spaces around campus.
